Paint - windows XP

By josephgerxi ·
While using Paint in XP I keep getting an error message each time I doubleclick the Paint icon. However when doubleclicking the Paint shortcut icon the program will open. I restored the operating system but the problem persists. Any remedies?

I am Just Speculating based ont the little information you have provided. But if you simply coppied the Paint executable to a new location ie. the desktop it wont run because there are supporting files that reside in the folder with the executable

you got it the other way around ,i.e.the desktop shortcut is working and the original is not.

They are actually both shortcuts. The one in the start/programs is pointed to the old location for paint. Can you delete it and create a new one? try copy/pasting the desktop one.

You might consider checking your folder options. Click Start>Control Panel> Folder Options. (I am using the Classic View) In General, make sure the "Click Items as follows" is set to double-click. In the View tab, make sure to check the box titled "Remember each folder's view settings." Click OK & see if this helps. :)
