parallel install uninstall

By cruffin ·
A year or so ago i had to install a parallel version of XP due to corrupt files. The installation was successful, the recovery was successful, and I merrily went on my computing way, happy that I recovered my system. Now that I'm housecleaning my pc, I see that I left the parallel installation in place. How can I tell which directory I'm loading from? And what exctly is the executable that starts XP nowadays?

all is revealed in your boot.ini file which is a hidden, read-only system file located at the root of the boot drive. temporarily remove those attributes so you can edit boot.ini
you will see the exact path to the default os installation. it is in code tho, by adapter, voluume, partition. you can decode it easy by looking up boot.ini in the kb at support.microsoft.com...it is a good file to understand and keep a backup copy of

Look in the Boot.ini file. This will tell XP where the system files are. Details on this file here:
