Parental Control APP for Amazon Tablet?

Hello. I have an Amazon Fire 10 Generation 9 tablet with OS 7.3.2.7. with the Parental Control features turned on. It’s a long story, but I would rather not also use the Child Profile(Amazon Kids) function of the tablet. However, I’d like to limit the violence, obscenity, an mature content that can be accessed by children on the web, in games, etc.. Can anyone recommend an app that can handle this? Thank you. John

While I cannot provide the name of a specific application, try reaching out to Amazon or doing a search in their application store.

Could it be the wrong tablet?

See if any Android or iPad is better in this regard. BTW, Amazon Fire tablets are not full fledged Android tablets, they are only based on Android so you can’t use all the Android apps.

          I recall OP’s prior discussion.

          It’s over at https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions/sharing-google-play-apps-games-on-amazon-tablet-child-profile/

What they have is a Chimera which means I doubt that a Fire tablet will ever work, not only for what they want but be broken due to what they did.

It’s also possible that no tablet will meet their requirements as once you are on the web, there is no standard for controlling what you can see or read there.

Yes, folk and apps try but there will always be failures.

Yes, rproffitt. That is the reason I posted this most recent question. I want to get rid of the child profile, but want some way to limit/prevent access by young children to things like extreme violence(gore and guts), obscene language, and porn, while still giving them the games they like to play. I know that I can shut off web access completely, as well, but I’d rather not take that drastic step.

Have to write no. Let me explain.

It has to do with the lack of any inherent system for the web for such ratings and then have browsers that would honor such ratings.

          This system does not exist.

You might tell me about Net Nanny or other apps but these are not 100% perfect so there will be failures and from my experience when a client asks for Internet filters, they get upset when they fail. So the answer swings back to there is no such system that works 100% of the time.

-> Now with your tablet or Chimera, it gets worse because it is neither a Fire tablet or a full up Android tablet.

For my kid I went with a Nintendo and Playstation for games. Back then you didn’t connect them to the Internet and they didn’t have browsers.

Thanks. I think my tablet is still an Amazon Fire, although I still have Google Play on it. Anyway, I understand that no parental control solution is going to be perfect and that most will have holes. I’m just looking to for the best app that will come relatively close to limiting violence, obscenity, and porn. Any suggestions? You mentioned Net Nanny…..

Actually, the best parental control is communication and understanding between parent and child. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of that these days. I sure you see it all around you.

          Try it and see.

You can check out Net Nanny and similar apps on Google Play.

But many complain about it not being perfect as well as kids find ways around it.

Remember my claim is that these apps can’t be perfect along with the Chimera issue.

Understood. I figure in this case something is better than nothing. These kids have unlimited access to anything and everything right now. Their brains are fried and they’re out of control, and part of the reason is what they’re seeing and hearing on the web, Youtube videos, and app games. Next is their mother’s iPhone and Verizon FIOS parental control.

I’ll take it from here. Thank you.

Amazon offers a built-in parental control feature called “Amazon FreeTime” on their Fire tablets, which allows parents to manage and control their children’s access to content, set time limits, and customize age-appropriate profiles. Here’s how you can set it up:

Open the “Settings” app on your Amazon Fire tablet.
Scroll down and select “Parental Controls” or “Parental Controls & Profiles.”
Tap on “Set Up Your Fire Tablet.”
Choose whether the tablet belongs to a child or an adult.
If you select “This is a child’s device,” you’ll be prompted to set up a child profile. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a profile with appropriate settings for your child.
If you select “This is an adult’s device,” you can create a PIN that will be required to access parental control settings.
Once you’ve set up the child profile or PIN, you can customize the parental control settings, such as time limits, content filters, and age restrictions.
With Amazon FreeTime, you can also manage and control the content your child can access, including books, videos, apps, and websites. It provides a safe and controlled environment for children to use their Amazon tablets.

        See above.

        1. “would rather not also use the Child Profile(Amazon Kids) function of the tablet.”
        2. Also, the tablet is neither a Fire or Android tablet. They’ve installed the Play Store on the Fire tablet so it’s not one or the other.

At some point they’ll realize this.

Thank you, Bushra. The full background behind not wanting to use Amazon’s child profile is here: https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions/sharing-google-play-apps-games-on-amazon-tablet-child-profile/
and excepted here: “As far as I’m concerned, Google Play cannot be installed onto the child profile of an Amazon Tablet, nor can an Amazon adult profile share content (with a child profile) that was not downloaded from the Amazon AppStore. It seems Amazon has the bases covered on this one.”

By the way, I finally chose Mobicip “Lite” version of parental control, as I was primary concerned with limited/blocking violence, obscenity, and porn as best I could for the least amount of money.

In addition, the tablet continues to function fine with Google Play on it.

corrections to part of my most recent post above for clarity, as follows:
