I have an NT File Server that is also the BDC for my small network. We use NetBEUI protocol. This file server has a 30 GB Harddrive which I have partitioned into two partitions…one FAT and one NTFS. Recently, I was loading software on the NTFS partition and an error message came up stating that a file that one of my users was using was corrupted and could not be saved. Soon after, the entire NTFS partition disappeared. Running Disk administrator verified the partition size, but showed an”Unknown” for the format type. I know that this is not a disk controller issue on the motherboard, as I connected this hard drive to another NT machine and was given the same information regarding the unknown format. I am also sure that the hard drive is not malfunctioning, due to the fact that the FAT partition is working fine.
I have researched this at MS and found some knowledge base articles on restoring partition info using Disk Probe. I am not sure if this will help restore this or not. Microsoft claims this could not be a software issue and had to be hardware…I have verified the hardware, so I do not believe MS is correct.
The information on this disk is about 60+ hrs of setup and configuration time. No Backup was done (Yeah…I know…DUH!!!) Please help. I need detailed information about what to do and guidance about how to do it… PLEASE HELP!!!
