Partition Magic on NT

By Tejota ·
I have an NT Server 4.0 spk6a server with a 1gb system partition. The server seems to be running out of space on that partion so I moved the pagefile, printspooler, have cleaned out some of the logs, and I'm still not satisfied with the diskspace Ihave. Some suggested running partition magic on it and increasing the sys partition. Has anybody done this with NT SERVER? If so were there any hitches or hazards to watchout for? I've done it on NT Workstation before, but I want to make sure there won't be any problems before I do this to a production server. Advice needed.

I would only run it after i take the same precautions I would take when doing a clean reinstall of a winnt server, it does not pay to risk it.
The last time a ran partition magic i had to reinstall evrything.

You cannot install PQM on Server. PowerQuest makes a Server Magic product for NT Servers. You can use partition magic boot disks and adjust the size from a boot disk. Have not had any problems, BUT anytime you are messing with the partitions, make sure you have a successful backup.

Juts recently used Power Quests... Server Magic on a Windows 2000 server. I have to say it was one of the easiest things I have ever done.
I'd make sure that the partition you are shrinking has alot of file space or you remove what is not necessary. As you could lose data on that partition due to the reduced size.

I presume NTFS is being used rather than FAT, if not convert it ASAP.

Install PQMagic on a separate box, create floppy boot with the files required.
Backup your system drive, create a new rescue disk and then reboot the machine with the PQMagic floppy.

Resize and restart :)

I have PQM since v3 and never had any issues, however drive integrity problems may arise due to such an operation.
