Partitions

By dangeam ·
Hello,
Last week on 26th April 2001 some of our PC were attacked by date virus which spoiled partitions. Can you advise me which utility to use to get at least data partitions. First partition is OS and others are data partitions.

In one other PC I have four partitions.
Partition 1 - Win98
Partition 2 - WinNT
Partition 3 - Data (NTFS)
Partition 3 - Data (NTFS)
When I try to boot to Win98 it work fine but I can not see any Data partitions. But when I try to boot to WinNT after selecting the OS option during boot process it give blue screen error. How can I boot to NT or atleast how can I recover my data partitions.
Thanks in advance.

Power Quest makes a tool called Lost and Found that recovers the partitions and files, if I remember correctly. You will need a second Hard Drive to write the recovered files to. You use a two floppies to load the program which runs in it's own dos. For about $70 and a Download away it could be your quickest and cheapest recovery option.

I ihve had good luck with lost and found but i dont think they support NTFS. I'm not sure if ther's a newer version out that does. Tiramisu's bundle does have NTFS support. I think their bundle is called Ontrack Easy recovery bundle.

There's a free utility on this site: http://grc.com/fix-cih.htm that was made just for fixing disasters from the CIH virus but from reading the site info it looks as if it will recover partitions. Someone else posted yesterday with the same type of problem, you may check w/him too to see how he resolved this problem.

Good luck!
