Password

Have forgotten my administrator password. How do i by pass in windows 2000 to get another password?

run the windows in Dos-Mode then copy all *.pwl file to Floppy. then download the Program from the Net that convert the *.pwl into password

Have to try first the answer before i rate the answer and award the points or more. Though i would like to know on which site do i get *.pwl convertor on the net.

Katri, pwl are to do with Windows 95/98 not 2000 as 2000 uses an encrypted SAM database for accounts.

Try Winternal's ERD commander tools to reset passwords, you can download a timelimited version to reset passwords in an emergency:

Try the boot floppy disk (or the CD) from this siet:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
I have used the boot floppy many times. It has worked every time on a computer with IDE drives or SATA drives. If you have a SCSI drive on the computer you will probably need the CD.

I have found that it works best when you <blank out> the password. Sometimes it has not worked when I change the password to a "preferred" password, but it has worked when I blanked the password.

Use the Knoppix Boot CD 3.x
It has a utility to blank admin passwords on Windows systems
