I have a Pentium II 300Mhz. Desktop PC. I need to install (NOT WINDOWS PASSWORD) a third party enabled PASSWORD before the Windows 98 boots.
The reason is that my PC contains numerous tax files and other sensitive documents. I will be at my friend's residence for 3-6 months. I don't want my PC to be vulnerable.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks
Sam

Most BIOS's allow you to set a password. If you do not enter the correct password, the computer will not boot up.
To access your BIOS, depending on the mfr., you press Escape or F3 or some other F key on bootup. It usually tells you as soon as the computer comes on. Look for something that says "Press xx to enter setup" where xx is the key to press.
Once you're there, the place to go will vary, but try Advanced settings first. Look for place to set password.
DO NOT FORGET OR LOSETHIS PASSWORD! Accessing you computer without it will be difficult (but not impossible).
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
