Password Conflicts

By rob.paulk ·
I have just purchased 150 new IBM laptops running Win2k and when a user connects to my NT4 network remotely and is asked to change his password it is not changing properly in the PDC. The only thing that I can figure out to do is to change the password back to the prior password. I have found nothing about this problem in the Microsoft Knowledge base.

I used to have the same problem, I didn't find any sensible answer but I was able to minimize the effects by getting the users to log off as soon as the password had been changed and then logging back on with the new password.

I have had found that the problem is usually in the time it takes for the PDC to replicate the password change. Two ways we have been able to get around this issue is, either login and log out after changing the password and then log back in with thenew password (you are using cached credentials) or the way I have done it, is to set the password for the user the same as his current network password and then have him change it upon logon.
