Password Inconsistency Help Needed

By luke.ingerman ·
I have a user who was prompted to change her password when logging in. She changed her password and all seemed fine. When the screen locked, she was unable to unlock using the new or old password.

I have tried the account on multiple machines with the same symptoms occuring. I re-created the user's roaming profile and the phenomena went away, but came back two days later. I am filling in at this site and the user claims nothing has changed recently (I know not to believe that) but I see no reason why this should occur.

The MS Knowledgebase has been useless. The network is as follows:

NT 4.0 based domain (DC are the only NT machines left)

Windows 2000 Pro SP 4 based clients

The user is using themes and three different language settings although English is the norm and she only changes the language when typing specific documents.

Password Synchronization

Is there a single domain?

If so, make sure the Primary Domain Controller is functioning. Force a replication to all the BDC's.

Sounds as if the password change is not replicating or the PDC is malfunctioning.
