Password not recognized after sleep mode

By highlander718 ·
When computer goes to sleep mode, the user enters the correc tpassword, still, it is not recognized. I have to boot him out as admin, after which he can log back no problem.

Tried to disable his power management option for the sleep mode, had to use admin rights which the user has not on his local machine.

The settings do not "last" however.

Logon as an administrator, elevate the user to admin.
Logon with their credentials, set the power option, remove them from the admin group and restart.

assuming you're using xp pro sp2...

if you don't want to elevate the person to admin level but want that person to be able to change their power options, you can perform a regedit and give that user permissions.

start, run, regedit, HKEY_CURRENT_USER, control panel, powercfg, right-click GlobalPowerPolicy, and allow that user full control over the power settings.

that should work. that's how i changed a user's laptop to never go into standby or anything. and of course you should back up your registry before making any changes.
