Password Protecting/ Encrypting Data CDs

By susser27 ·
It has become of increasing interest to me to be able to password protect/encrypt data CDs. I do not know what kind of software or utilities are available but would appreciate any kind of "point in the right direction."

Free Software

As urmi mentioned, there is a lot of freeware out there to encrypt or password protect. However, some of the password protectors I have tried have pathetic password rules. There is also a lot of software out there that can crack passwords very easily. You may want to contact Entrust Technologies ( to see if you can get hold of an encryption product called SOLO which was free for personal use and $50us for Corporate use. Its their first generation product (circa 1997), uses public key technology and works on everything up to Win 2k (I have not tried on XP yet). I still deploy it within our corporation for document interchanges with our vendors, partners and customers. It provides industrial strength encryption and is very easy to use.
