Password question on file access

By ralph ·
I have several XP-home workstations connected to a Win2k server. On one of the XP-home machines when i open the windows fileexplorer it want me to log on to the server. Yes, the user account exists on both the XP and the server machines. When i do the same thing on a different XP machine i dont have to give the password.

i would try another user account (like administrator) on problem xp box to see if profile is corrupt/misconfigured permissions.
i would turn off 'feature' xp searching for shares (folder options/views)

open "regedit" and check out the key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters\enableplaintextpassword" (=password encryption on or off). Compare the value of this key with one of the other xp machines.
