Pavilion Hard Disk Replacement

By alexrounds ·
Howdy!
I'm trying to replace a going-bad hard disk on a Pavilion xh535. Unlike other models, there is no obvious access to the hdd. HP's website is no use. Any ideas about accessing hdd on this model?
Please advise, thanks

Alex- You are trying to get to the Hard Drive correct? If so, remove the side-panel and there should be a lever at the top that you pull down to allow the CD/Floppy carrage to move forward allowing access to the drives. This should be after you remove the front covers.

Hi timmedsker, Thanks for replying. I actually found the HDD under the keyboard. Another similar laptop I had to work on (not my own) was closer to your description.

This is a laptop correct?

If so sometimes finding the hard drive can be very difficult. Some areas to check

1. look where the PC cards fit into the system. If the is only one slot for a PC card, generally the hard drive will be on top of the PC card. Just remove the plate.

2. It maybe located by the input jacks for speakers.

3. Worse case you may have to remove the keyboard and top cover for the laptop. They may have hidden it in the middle of the laptop.

I have seen many different locations for a hard drive in a laptop. Sometimes I have had to just open the laptop and go OH that is where it is at. But check the sides and see if there is anything that can be removed. Remove those and see if the hard drive is located there.
