PC abrupt restart

By bfadero ·
I have a pc which literally restarts itself between the 3.30 pm and 4.00pm for the past 3 days now(or more). It's as if it loses power for a split second and then restarts itself. I checked event viewer and it created .dmp files for each of the shutdown. The problem is I am unable to read these log files let alone debug or troubleshoot what could cause the shutdown.

It looks as though the Power Supply may be going bad. If it is connected to a power strip/surge protector, that may be the problem. Plug the PC straight into the wall outlet and see if that doesn't change anything. If problems still exists, go into the BIOS or setup, usually F1 or Delete on firs screen after PC starts up and check to see if ACPI or power saving mode is enabled. If it is, disable it. It doesn't save that much power anyway and keeping the computer from losing work is more important.

It is possibly blue screening, maybe at a scheduled task. When it is booted up, uncheck the "restart on error" box. Then you can see the BSOD when it happens to troubleshoot better.

I had a remote system do this because of the ISP. They send a disconnect signal 2x a day on uploads. Every time the signal was sent it bsod instead of just disconnecting.
