PC anywhere to work on a Linksys router

By jorijosh ·
I am desperately trying to to get pc anywhere 9.2 to work through a Linksys router (4 port). I can ping both ends with no problems. It appears I cannot break through the routers built in NAT. I'm curious if there is anyone out there that has successfully set this up?? Any help would be much appreciated..

The default pcAnywhere port numbers are 5631 (DataPort or TCP) and 5632 (StatusPort or UDP).

You need to open up filters for these ports on your linksys Advanced --> Filters. Open these two ports to your local computer ip address (192.168.1.x) and setup pcanywhere to host. Linksys asks for a range, but my experience is that you can put in the port in both the from and to fields and it'll work.

I have done this with other ports/software and it works just fine.

The other option is to put your local ip address in the DMZ function of the linksys router.... but that will open all ports. It's a last resort to "test" that your router is working properly.

Search www.symantec.com --> Knowledge Base --> pc anywhere and "firewall ports" for more info.

This answer gave me half of what I needed. Unfortunately I was making one bone headed mistake, by not putting a static ip on the local machine, as the same as the routers ip. I thank you much for your immediate response and knowledge you were willing to lend.
