I’ve got a really tough problem with a Toshiba Satellite 1730XCD laptop running Win98SE and a Linksys PCM100 Fast Ethernet NIC. I followed Linksys instructions (since I don’t work with many laptops) and loaded the drivers. When I went to set the network settings I noticed that the mouse would freeze for several seconds then work for several seconds – off & on. I made the settings and rebooted and had the same problems and couldn’t connect to the network. Also, the only light on the card that was on was the 10/100 – the Link & Act lights weren’t on. Checked all IRQ & I/O settings and found no conflicts. The NIC was using IRQ 11 & I/O 300-310 and had no conflicts – there is nothing else even sharing IRQ 11. I’ve tried a multitude of things to no avail. Tried changing the IRQ and I/O and was able to connect to network but after rebooting I had same problem. I’ve unloaded – reloaded drivers. Looked for new drivers but mine were the newest out. Tried removing McAfee and other software – still nothing. Tried unloading – reloading PC card services. I really could use some new ideas to try. Thanks!!!
