PC constantly rebooting, virus?

By anthonyyee23 ·
I am having serious trouble with my PC. It just keep rebooting the moment the power is turn ON. On rare occasion, it manage to start-up the Window. One occasion, I managed to download and run Microsoft Malicious Malware Removal Tool, and got rid off 6 infected files. But, the rebooting got more serious...as mention.

I am running on Window XP-Pro, 2002 version, with Service Pack 2. However, my Norton Anti-virus expired Y2003.

Any ideas to fix this problem?

Anthony

Some virus use the window timer.
A trick is when windows start, then you change the time. Take it back a couple of hour?s.
Start in safe mod.
Also remove the norton and get a good antivirus. It must also be updated.
If you have an other computer you can DL to that and burn a CD and use that on the infected Windows.
You can also boot from some antivirus program to clean the HD before you even start windows.

Could be anything

To eliminate a virus, try booting with Knoppix or other live-CD OS and run a virus scan. F-prot (http://www.f-prot.com) has excellent antivirus solutions for multiple operating systems.

You could also have a hardware issue (probably memory). Download and run Memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/) to perform exhaustive memory tests. You can also use #1TuffTest Lite (free at http://www.tufftest.com/tt01-lite.htm). Let it run the full test and check your results.
