PC diagnostics

? Is diagnostic software available that is bootable from CD Rom that allows me to run format C:, check disk, a virus checker, and any other desirable tests… Here is my problem, my grandaughter’s PC died, I had to remove the HD, put is in an external enclosure plug it into my usb port and run a virus checker. This took forever because my virus checker ran on my hard drive first and then ran on the external drive. I would like also to be able to select the drive I want to test….Thank you, Bob….
