pc does not shut down

i have a PIII with 128 mb of ram and 40 gb hdd
i have installed Windows XP Professional and Server 2003 standerd edition, my problem is that when i shutdown the while in server 2003 it says
" Its Now Safe To Turn Of Your COmputer " and i have to pwower off the pc by pressing and holding the power button of my pc for a few seconds. But there is no such type of problem with windows xp
it shuts down the pc automatically..
can anybody help me .......

hi

the main prob might be the older bios i have a link below which helped my friend solve his issue.... u dont get this problem on newer mother boards

Both of the above answers are correct and point you to the correct place. If you can update your BIOS to the latest available but with a lot of P3's this will not be new enough to fix your current problem.

The same thing happens with a lot of P2's running XP they deliver exactly the same message it all depends on the BIOS and chip set of the M'Board.

If upgrading your pc bios still fails to correct the problem, do this too as a possible workaround. Create a shortcut on your desktop and make this the target:

%windir%\System32\SHUTDOWN.exe -f -s -t 01

This calls the shutdown command, forces programs to close, stops services and then shutsdown after one second.
