PC Freezes when conncted to LAN/internet

    Locked

    by netadmin ·

this is my hardware setup: intel celeron 800MHz CPU. ASUS cuple VM board. Generic 56K modem.
    Realtek NIC.

Everytime i connect my workstation to the local area network, it freezes after a few moments. The same is true is i dial up to the internet. The same results also if i install VM ware. I tried swapping the modem and/or NIC to different expansion slots but its still the same. My applications are working fine. What could be the possible problem here? anyone???? thanks in advance

PC Freezing upon connection to a LAN..

      VIRUS…

Boot into safe mode and run your latest anti-virus software.

Run the latest update – WIN 2K SP4 (have it downloaded and burned onto a CD for easier access)

reboot, goto http://www.lavasoftusa.com and download Adaware for free… update it and scan your entire system to ensure you also didn’t get hijacked in the background somewhere.

You didn’t say what kind of LAN??
Realteks are known bad actors, if you don’t get success from number 1 answer try swapping to a different NIC.
