PC freezing in a very strange way after installing 3 case fans

I recently installed 3 CoolerMaster MasterFan MF 120mm fans in my case. I replaced the original back case fan, and put the other two on the top of the case. All three are 4pin fans plugged directly into the motherboard on sys fan 1, 2, and 3. After I installed them, the fans seemed to be working fine but my PC would start freezing 10-15 minutes after booting. First, a program freezes, or a window becomes unresponsive, and I cannot open new windows or programs. Then, alt+Ctrl+delete stops working, and the shut down button stops working as well. Finally the mouse freezes and the whole PC becomes unresponsive and I have to hard boot it. This happens every time I boot it now. I think this must be related to the fans but it seems like a separate issue… All the fans are spinning and working well throughout. I really don’t know what to make of it. I’ve run virus scans that turned up nothing, and checked the health of the drives and they all are supposedly functioning properly. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

      Some tips

Since the fans are working fine, it’s possible that the issue might not be directly related to them. It’s good that you’ve ruled out viruses and drive health. Here’s what I suggest:

      1. Check the power draw. Installing 3 new fans might put extra load on your PSU. Your PSU seems strong enough, but it’s worth checking. Use a tool like HWMonitor to see the total power usage.

      2. Re-seat the fans. Sometimes an issue can occur from a fan connector not being fully inserted into the motherboard.

      3. Check your PC for overheating. While the fans are running, they might not be cooling your system effectively, causing it to overheat and freeze.

      4. Update your BIOS and drivers. Sometimes, hardware changes can cause issues if the software isn’t up-to-date.

      5. If all else fails, remove the new fans and see if the problem persists. This can help isolate the issue.

RTX 3080 and some 850W PSU. Odd hard to pin down lockups. Changed to 1,000W PSU and it’s fixed.

      Higher Power Supply Unit Required

Since you have added 3 Fans which are directly connected to the Motherboard, they seem to be taking more power than before so it looks like there isnt much power received for the other chips and drives on the Motherboard to run the system properly. Changing the PSU (Power Supply Unit) to a higher voltage would solve this issue and since yours is an 850W PSU, get a 1000W PSU and there wouldn’t be any CPU throttling anymore.
