My Pc is a FIC SD11 M/B,196mb Ram,TNT Rage Video 16mb,7800 rpm maxtor Hard drive,Running Windows 98 SE.The pc started to hang up on bootup about every 4th restart at the checking NVRAM notification.I have installed a new video card and all the sdramis brand new.It started doing this when I installed a Ms optical mouse and pro keyboard with usb ports also done the USB upgrade thing. It didn't help any.!!Note!!! one of the ports on the keyboard is running the optical mouse. It works fine in Windows with no problems.I changed the ram and video because AMD said they might be bad,but boy where they wrong.I am stumped on this one,if anyone has ran into this using basically the same processor, please let me in on your secret. Thanks

I would check the device manager to make sure that ther are no IRQ conflicts. The anti virus could be causing the hang up problem, try msconfig from the Run dialog box and clear the check mark to disable the antivirus at start up then reboot,to see if this will clear up the problem.
Get into your system BIOS, usually hitting F1 or del upon startup. Find a setting ( could be anywhere ), that either clears/resets ECSD or is it ESCD? data, or resets configuration defaults. NOte... this is not system defaults, but configuration defaults.
Your system is trying to play nice with the new video card, but still retains some configuration settings from the old.
I recommend that you also reseat your RAM and make sure that it did not loosen when you installed the video card. Sometimes RAM needs to be in a particular slot in order to operate properly.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
