PC Internet Networking

By jksyzdek ·
I just networked two computers together via ethernet direct connect. One has Windows ME and the other has Windows 98. The one that has 98, I can't seem to get it to open a page on my browser(IE 5). It can sign onto my ISP,(directly through the modem, not through the network, eventhough I can't get that to work either) but IE will not display the page on the browser. The address field shows the link to the web site I'm trying to go to(any website). I'm lost.

Only with regard to the PCs not talking to each other I suspect that the direct CAT5 cable is not a cross-over. If it is a "straight" then you will require a HUB/Switch in-between. If you know a decent techy he should be able to make a cross-over cable for you or purchase one from a good Computer Shop and have them test it before you take it.
