PC Internet Networking

I just networked two computers together via ethernet direct connect. One has Windows ME and the other has Windows 98. The one that has 98, I can’t seem to get it to open a page on my browser(IE 5). It can sign onto my ISP,(directly through the modem, not through the network, eventhough I can’t get that to work either) but IE will not display the page on the browser. The address field shows the link to the web site I’m trying to go to(any website). I’m lost.
