PC Log on to wrong Domain Controller

By it.log ·
Hi
I have 3 domain controllers in 3 locations domain x. The problem is that some pc's are using the offsite domain controller to authenticate.

How can I force logging on top a named domain controller?

Thanks

I am guessing it is 2000 or XP you are noticing pc's authenticating to other servers...

There is no setting nor change you can do. If those 3 domains you have are all one domain, when a pc logs on, it finds the fastest authentication server and authenticates. There is no switch to say "do not go here"

Could I create a site for each location and place the DC in there...

Why wouldn't you want users authenticated by the fastest DC? Perhaps one has less local load, and is able to authenticate more quickly. Why is that not OK?

You can add another server to take the load off of the local server. Or, if your local DC is running other tasks, maybe they can be moved to a different server allowing your DC to act more as a DC.
