    PC not logging onto network

    Locked

    by jmetthe ·

At a satellite, they are unable to log onto the network. I can ping them and they can ping me and the mail server. But when it comes to logging on the login script runs and then the hour-glass just sits on the desktop and never logs them in and noerror messages appears? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

In these type of cases its always a good idea to go into network properties and remove all instances of TCP/IP, Client for Micrsoft Networks and any adapters.. then reboot and reinstall them. Normally takes about 15 minutes to get everything installed again and has fixed about 85% of my “wierd” network connectivity problems. But I only do this after all the other normal network troubleshooting techniques have been used. (ex:ping, winipcfg -release/renew, ect.) Best of luck!

Obviously, the two points can see each other since the pings worked. It could be that the client configuration has changed somehow. Are they a part of the network? Are all the necessary protocols installed? Are the services running properly on the server–as with other clients locally? Make sure–and I know this sounds stupid–that the primary login is the server and not windows. I do what Answer # 1 does–uninstall all client, NIC and TCP/IP stuff, reboot not connected, reinstall, and then reboot again. Please let us know how this turned out for you when you close this thread with a comment–very interesting problem! Best wishes!

are you on a network card with vpi and vci settings they may need to be changed manually I couldn’t sign on for this reason with noway to change the vci and vpi I download efficent networks software which allowed me to change vpi to 8 and vci to 36 and everything worked fine then.I did get error messages though and could ping but not sign on.
