PC not shutting down

Well win xp doesnt shut down by itself u have to manually shut it down by pressing the power button for a long time. But if it is rebooting many times then u have to check the following.
go to start - run - type msconfig go to the general tab and click on advanced. in advance u have an option disable fast shutdown. if it is checked remove it, if it is not checked then check it. this will solve the problem.

You may want to check you APM (Advance Power Management) to see if it is activated.

Right Click your mouse on your desktop
Select Properties
Select Screensave Tab
Click Power Management
Select APM Tab
Make sure there is a check mark in theAPM option

This is the most likely reason for the problem...

When you are shutting down your system there is a problem with one of the drivers that causes the system to bluescreen (fail). Because XP by default is configured to Automatically Reboot upon failure the system restarts without letting you know what the problem is.

Hear is what you need to do. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Select the Advanced tab then click on the Startup and Recovery button. Deselect the Automatically Reboot option then OK you way out of the properties windows.

Shutdown your system and watch for the BSOD (blue screen of death). This will let you know what error is causing the system failure.

Let us know what the error is and one of us may have a solution.

later...
