PC powers up even after shutdown.

By cyberjackz7777136 ·
When I shut down my computer properly, after about 15 minutes, it powers back on. Where do I correct this problem. I am running Win2000Pro.

I assume that the PC has an ATX power supply.

The worst case senario here is that the power control circuitry in the motherboard is damaged, and drwas enough current to turn on the power supply.

The other options include:

Disable all wake on functions in BIOS settings/power management.

Disable wake on keyboard. (I have a couple of ASUS motherboards with this feature, and it requires setting a jumper to disable it.)
For some systems with this feature, even a slight mouse movement will wake up the system.

Install a good quality AC line filter. I am not referring to a surge protector, but an actual AC line noise filter. You may need to go to an electrical supply store to find one.
One manufacture of the filters themselves is Corcom.

It might be worth the effort to try a new power supply of slightly higher wattage.

Check Power Settings. If all else fails, check settings in BIOS.

Drop into the device manager. Go to System device and into the ACPI power supply. ON of the tabs in there should give you the option of forcing APM 1.0. Thry this
