pc reboots at windows XP login screen

By eseigal ·
Running Windows XP Home edition on Pentium 4 pc.
If it sits idle at the User Login screen for awhile, it will reboot. And then it keeps rebooting at the login screen in an endless loop.
If we login to one of the user accounts and let it sit idle, it will not reboot. How do I stop the rebooting problem?

Log in and check the Event Viewer for any details on why it is doing this. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance & MAintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer.

Check the System and Application logs in EV for any red X events that happen at the time when the machine reboots itself. Please post what you see.

most likely a blue screen in winlogon. When booted up, turn off the Auto reboot feature from
system properties -- advanced -- startup and recovery.
If it is a blue screen, you should get more details. Like the file that caused the fault, the fault iteself, and a fault code. Then you can query microsoft or the web on the fault code, or fault.
