Start by checking your CPU and power supply fans.

With the power off, the fans should spin freely, and should be quiet.

If the fans are hard to spin, or make a grinding noise, they are bad.

Since your system is shutting down, I would replace the device associated with the fan.

If the power supply fan is bad, replace the power supply.

If the CPU fan is bad, replace both the CPU, and the heatsink/fan.

You could also try a differnt monitor, as it may be a problem with the monitoritself.

As Chas eluded to this is probably a heat related issue. The bad thing about AMD CPUs is they run hot. If the cooling fan fails the poor thing is roasted within seconds.

Other problem may be that the power supply cannot handle the load on it. I've had this problem with parallel cards, scanners and some USB devices draining too much power.
