PC stuttering on start up, bogging down, and a lot of processes running.

Okay, so I only /thought/ I was halfway intelligent. As it turns out I’m a technical retard. I need someone to look me in the eye and tell me what the heck is going on with all these processes.

When I start up the PC, XP Pro, I get stuttering sound, jumping/skipping/sloooooow moving everything, and when I look to my task manager I have processes I’m sure oughtn’t be there. List of processes is relatively straight forward:

svchost.exe a thousand times. (So I exaggerate slightly; it’s more like 8 or 10 times.)

csrss.exe

smss.exe

I know something isn’t right here, but I can’t work it out. Anyone with any clue as to why this is happening, aside from the obvious fact that my hubby is addicted to open source internet, which I am totally not liking, please, by all means, share. I’m getting tired of his reinstalling the OS every three weeks!

Take care,
Azy!
