have you ran Adaware - www.lavasoftusa.com to get rid of any malicious spyware in your system?

have you updated your antivirus and ran a full scan?

Have you done a defrag of your entire system?

Did you go into your control panel and removed any malicious programs or programs not needed?

Have you deleted your temp folder contents along with change your internet explorer settings to only save 1mb of files instead of 3000mb?

You didn't detail your stsem specs but there are a LOT of things that slow down WinXP Home.

Other than the first answer of running Adaware, which is a good start:

Mainly RAM is a major issue with XP. It is not very resourceful and needs a tonne o RAM in it.

Also, it may be device driver issues.

If you post back system specs, you may get more detailed help.

First run defrag, I also agree that Ad-Aware is another good start. Run AV software. Check your startup menu and see what starts running on bootup. Many software venders add their programs to the startup group, but they are not needed then.
Check RAM and CPU speed. Less than 600 Mhz proc, and less than 128 Mb Ram will cause a noticeable system hit. Recommended to also look at HDD free space. If most of the disk is used, there is less for the page file. Empty deleted items, clear Temp Internet files and cookies, and clean out the temp folders.

That should set you up pretty good.
