Pc Won’t boot at all after reconnecting old SATA (!!!??)

by rare.assassin . Updated 16 years, 8 months ago

This is lengthy- i apologise, but in all my years i’ve never seen this happen before, and it’s critical i find a solution

over the time since i built my I have accumulated 4 HDD,
2X IDE (work fine)
and 2X SATA > one is an older 250gb sata1
> the second (newest) is a 320gb sata2 (but jumpered to work at 150)

have just been using a different os on the new 320 sata2 for a while now (forgot to order some cables)

, i disconnected all my old hdd’s (just the cables and left them in the case)

BUT i just tried to connect both sata’s up at the same time, and my pc wouldn’t start at all (just got the green power light, no fan noise whatsoever)

this lead me to initially believe that it was a PSU issue, but have tired various combinations of all 4 hdd’s and the only time it will start is when my older 250 sata is not connected.

before trying both sata’s at the same time this drive worked fine, and my pc would turn on just fine, but now after trying the two together , when this drive is connected pc won’t start at all.

please any suggestions for a solution, or even a stab at what the issue is would be a great help

thanks
