pcAnywhere setup for cable to cable

I’ve had little luck in setting up pcAnywhere to go from one system with a cable modem to another. The process should be simple enough (choose the cable modem host/remote) but my guess is that I’m getting hit with the IP address. Aren’t the IPs supposed to be those of the cable modems? If you have a router, do you need to use that one instead?
