pcAnywhere through a switch

The only key to installing PCAnywhere and using it successfully is if you can open ports 5631 & 5632 for PC Anywhere to communicate back and forth through a firewall.

The 3Com Superstack 3 3300XM is a switch... not a firewall. It does not playinto whether or not PCAnywhere would or would not work.

If you have no firewall, then you should not have a problem. If you have a firewall, you need to open 5631 and 5632 both udp and tcp, and you should be fine.

DSL also uses dynamic ip addresses (usually unless you pay more for static), and a DSL/Cable firewalls usually operates from NAT (network address translation). You will need to know how to configure pc anywhere on both sides (host and client)
