PCI 4-Channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID on F50

By adydeejay ·
My server configuration, running SWIFTAlliance Access Application, is:
- IBM RS/6000 7025 model F50
- 2 x 4.5GB SCSI HDD (not-mirrored)

New equipment:
- PCI 4-Channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID
- 3 x 9.1GB Ultra-SCSI 10K rpm

Q: How can I use betterthis adapter and what RAID level/configuration you suggest, knowing that this adapter is not bootable and doesn't support rootvg on it ?

PCI 4-Channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID on F50

Use the bios configuration and set up a 3 drive RAID-5 pack across the drives, with one drive on each channel of the controller. RAID-5 interleaves the parity and data across all the drives, with processing done on the card. Any drive can fail and the pack will keep going.
AIX will be then presented with what it thinks is single 18Gb drive. Divide it how you like.
