PCI BUS MASTER/ GIGABYTE MB

By n_n_v_a ·
i'm having a similar problem to a question addressed on here recently... i have a Gigabyte P4 Titan DDR motherboard and i use both win98 and winxp. in win98 under "unknown devices" are a pci bus master which is missing a driver and two "unknown" devices, which are also, obviously, missing drivers... the 98 runs nearly three times slower than xp with the same application (logic). does anyone know where i can get the pci bus driver and/or what the two unknown devices are?

Probably chipset drivers for the 845 Intel chipset that you probably have. Go to Intel's website and download the "Chipset Driver Installation Utility"... This should address at least one of the devices (but mabye not the I/O controller). Next youshould download the Intel Application Accelerator app. This will address the I/O controller, especially if your hard drives use UDMA Mode 5 for transfer.

The 2 other devices, are hardware that is connected to the PCI bus.
Until you have the driver functioning for the bus, Windows can't identify whats connected to it.

As has been stated, you do need to start with the W98 bus drivers from either Intel, Gigabyte, or the CD that came with the MB.

Also, dispite all my disbelief, XP does indeed run the same application faster than 98 most of the time.

Make sure that you pay attention to the W98 RAM wall. W98 can have problems with more than511MB of ram.
