pci vga card

i have a compaq deskpro 4000 5133(with a p166mmx chip installed),i have been trying to get a sis6326 pci accelarator card to work but when i put the card in the bios and win 98 just ignore it.i have tried what compaq said but to no avail has anyone had the same problem or can anyone help?.i have tried disabling the onboard cirrus cl-gd5446 in device manager and in the bios.when i put the new card in there is no display fron the onboard vga or the pci card.help

Did Compaq say if there was a jumper on the MotherBoard to disable the Cirrus vga ? Did you also try Start/ControlPanel/Add New Hardware Dialog? I seem to remember that the 2000/4000 Compaqs were not 'auto-disable' boards so you should find a jumperon it to disable the onboard video. A helpful hint - always disable and remove drivers and devices while in "Safe-Mode".
