pci vga card

i have a compaq deskpro 4000 5133(with a p166mmx chip installed),i have been trying to get a sis6326 pci accelarator card to work but when i put the card in the bios and win 98 just ignore it.i have tried what compaq said but to no avail has anyone had the same problem or can anyone help?.i have tried disabling the onboard cirrus cl-gd5446 in device manager and in the bios.when i put the new card in there is no display fron the onboard vga or the pci card.help

I would try a different slot. Load setup and bios defaults and then make sure PNP is still on. If the computer doesnt detect the card maybe the card isnt seated all the way. You can bend the end where the screw goes. Bend it up so that you can make sure the card gets seated all the way.

The new card should be loaded before you disable the old one.

i would not consider any sis card to be an accelerator.
compaqs from this era may not acccept a video card. your video is probably integrated an unable to accept a replacement.
if you want accelerator functions on this machine, find a voodoo2 pci add-in card ($25-$50). it will work with you present video card but take over when any acceleration is needed.
