PDC shows as workstation in Server Mgr.

We are having authentication problems with Win95 stations that are trying to authenticate to our NT 4 SP6a domain. Users were recieving the message “No Domain Controller available to authenticate your request”. We are running a PDC/BDC domain, andare running a WINS server on our BDC. We do not believe it is a sp6a issue, as authentication was working fine for at least a month after our installation of the service pack. We have also uninstalled, and reinstalled our WINS server to verify thatno errant WINS entries were causing the problem. No other installations or changes to the servers have occured since. While reviewing the settings on the PDC, we noticed that Server Manager shows our PDC as a NT Workstation. When trying to do a status on the PDC, we get the message “No PDC found”. We checked registry settings, as well as using command line net commands, and they both correctly show the server as the PDC. The BDC identifies itself correctly under all circumstances. We are looking at promoting the BDC, which should demote the current PDC, and then reversing the process to see if that resolves our problems, but thought I would see if anyone else has a less drastic suggestion that may cure our ills.
