PDC to BDC on Dif. Domain

By Wagman ·
I have a PDC (single server) on one Domain that I would like to move to a new domain as a BDC. The domain it is going to has a PDC, BDC, and Citrix Server (Member). I would like to move the other Server to this Domain as either a BDC or a Member Server, whichever would result in the most beneficial use of the server. (Probably a member server)

Thanks

PDC to BDC on Dif. Domain

In NT 4.0, domain controllers can not migrate from domain to domain without re-installing, because they contain a copy of the SAM database. To bring the server into the other domain, you will have to re-install it into the new domain.

Sorry the news isn't better,

Ian

I see no problem doing what you have listed above, but I am unclear on what you are asking. Can you post a little clearly on what your question or problem is?

Thanks

I add a little, but simply put a PDC needs to become a BDC in a diferent domain...

You can accomplish what your trying to do with out reinstalling, but it will require a tool to do it. A great tool that is available is http://www.algintech.com Upromote and should help you accomplish what your looking to do. You would essentialy demote the PDC to a member server and leave the domain and join the one you wish. You could then turn the member server into a BDC if you wish and reach your goal.

I came across this, but that solution was $100, I might look into it later. Thanks for the input.

100.00 is in expensive considering the solution works, its tried and tested and while there are other tools out there, FastLane also makes one, compaired with reinstalling? Microsoft's answer is, reinstall so unless your ready to try someones half baked, undocumented registry hack, I would pay the 100.00 and get it done right or reinstall. What is your time worth? Just trying to help, no disrespect intended.

I understand and the utility is exactly what I need. However, I am going to try a trust relationship first. Any thoughts on that

I would like to add this server as a Member Server. That domain already is having a BDC.It's not beneficial to add another BDC in the same location.
