.pdf file comes in a Word file

.pdf file is an attachment in Outlook. Has the .pdf extension, using Acrobat 5 or 6. It continues to try and open with Word? Why and how to stop.

the file extension has been altered. go to control panel -- folder options -- file types
reassociate .pdf with Acrobat

You can also right-click on the document and select "open with". Select "choose program".

You can now click on acrobat, and check the box for "Always use this program to open these files".

OR... you can go to the command prompt and enter "assoc .pdf=AcroExch.Document" (w/o the quotes) to reassociate.

If this doesn't fix it, you may need to check the registry entry for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document\shell\open\command and make sure that this is going to acrord32.exe. It will show the full path (i.e. "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" "%1")

Even easier yet?.... Reinstall ADOBE
