AltaVista just announced an enterprise P2P initiative involving searching distributed PCs for content of interest. Essentially, this involves installing small, transcoding web servers (screen shot: http://badblue.com/helpmdb.htm#shot ) on corporatePCs and letting them get spidered.
Interested in reaction from a privacy and security standpoint. Or is the fact that companies already monitor email traffic, HTTP requests (via proxies), etc. already mitigate this type of approach?
Thanks.
Disclosure: we’re a vendor, but certainly interested in the topic.
