Peer to peer network printing issue

Have a client with a peer to peer network (8 Win98 and 2 Mac Workstations) connected to an HP LJ4050 printer with an internal jet direct card. Ever so often the Win 98 workstations will lose their ability to print, and will have to reinstall the jet direect software. To add to this problem, when I try to delete the old printer, the printer window quits responding, and won’t let me delete the printer. Someone please help!!!!
