Peer to peer network problem

By jking3 ·
Our office has 10 computers and one network printer on a peer to peer network. Most of the compueters are running Windows 98, some are running Windows 95. Two of the computers recently stopped recognizing each other. They were working fine, then they just stopped recognizing each other. They both recognize all the other computers on the network and both are recognized by all the others on the network. They just won't work with each other. Both have Windows 98SE installed. We have uninstalled and reinstalled TCP/IP, no help. Any suggestions?

Peer to peer network problem

Here is a suggestion that you can look at.
You will have either a Hub or Switch to connect all these PC's together. Hve you tried changing ports on the hub for the problem pc's? I had a problem a year ago, in which two systems in a remote office could see and talk to the server at the main office. But they could not see or talk to each other. After much diagnostics, we learned that the Hub was defective. After replacing it, the problem went away.

From what you have written, your networking seems to be okay and you have done the correct steps to try to remedy the problem. I would now check on the hardware. Check cables, replace patch cables. Check patch panel connections, etc. But most of all, check your hub or switch.

Best of luck

You may try un-installing and re-installing NetBEUI protocol...
