Peer-to-Peer Networking Headache

by dirtycar74 . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

OK, so I wanted to setup a home LAN. I have these three computers, all of which are running different versions of Windows. One day I decided to get brave and network them all together. The computers are described below:

Computer A: Intel Pentium III 933 Mhz running Win2kPro
Computer B: AMD K6 III 333 Mhz runnng WinME
Computer C: AMD K6 III 333 Mhz running Win98SE

All computers are connected to a hub (MFG=LinkSys) via CAT5 cables and ethernet adapters made by the same corporation (LinkSys). The only difference in the LAN adapters is that the one in computer C is an older version that is 10 base T and the other two are running 10/100.

All machines have all protocols enabled, and I have tried all different kinds of combinationsof these protocols.

The 98SE box (computer C) only sees itself.
the other two machines see each other and access everything just fine. On the odd occasion the other machines (Computers A&B) see computer C, they cannot access it.

I have verified that the file-sharing technique is the same throughout the LAN.

I have been successful in connecting Computer C to Computer A by means of Direct Cable only so far. But even then Computer A cannot ping computer C, but while connected this way,Computer B can ping and tracert Computer C.

This perplexes me to no end. I may not have a LOT of tech-points, but am willing to give all I have to the person who solves this. I am stumped.
