Peer to Peer problem

By dkruse ·
I have two workstations setup peer to peer...One is windows98 other Win Me...They both are running tcp-ip and are sharing files between them....When I open a word document file from my Windows Me on my 98 machine the files opens fairly fast...a 21k file takes 1-3 seconds....Vice Versa it takes about 10 seconds....The file locally opens fine...I have replaced the Nic and Cable and problem still exists...Any idea's would be appreciated...Thank You

Peer to Peer problem

my you must be impatient. no offense however you must understand that 98 and me are different. for example there tcp/ip default settings are different in the registry. a nic nor cable would be responsible for an extra 7 seconds to open a document. try installing internet optimization software or registry entries from www.speedguide.net loading the same registry tweak on each machine may solve the problem. it is more than likely just a tweaking that needs to be done. go to the website andyou will find out all about the registry tweak its for cable modems and dsl modems it sets network settings optimally. even try internet tweak 2000. good luck

You could also try using the NETBEUI protocol to connect the 2 pc's. I use this with no TCP/IP and it works fine: except it seems to connect faster with a windows logon not Microsoft Networks.

Another option is to make sure that you only have one networking protocol active. Some of my machines were taking 'ages' to access the network, and the cure was to make sure that only one protocol (in my case netbui) was loaded on each machine.

After any unwanted protocols were removed network access speeded up considerably, resulting in faster opening times for all documents
