PERFORMANCE

By Shanghai Sam ·
I go to "my computer-properties-performance" on a regular basis. I AM running
virus scan only in my tray and yet am down to
83% on startup.After a short while I am
down to ~65%. My "msconfig" listing has a
number of items which I am not famaliar with
and do not want to uncheck without asking.
I am running WIN98 Update from WIN95. Thanks-

PERFORMANCE

<start><programs><accessories><system tools><system information> When this opens up, select the TOOLS menu and then choose 'System Configuration Utility'. Lastly, select the 'start up' Tab. From here you will find a list of programs that are loaded when the system is booted up. You can remove the check marks from any that you desire to see how your performance is changed. If you do not like the result, or it affects a program that you want to run, simply replace the check mark and it will be loaded the next time you reboot. Remember, after any changes, you will be asked to reboot.

you should be able to figure out what it is that is taking up your resources.

Lots of Luck

PERFORMANCE

this is the truth. i have not ran anitvirus software on my computer since 1998 and have never had a virus or a trojan or any thing of that sort and have had adsl connections on all day, as long as there is a decent firewall you will be okay on the net. the only place you can get a virus is from the net or a floppy or over a network. i doubt you yourself would even ever encounter an infected floppy i would suggest only using your own in your computer. disable or uninstall the virus softwareit only eats up[ memory and performance i went from 88% to 96% by doing so. or you may just try installing the software every once in a while to check for virus. good luck
