permissions problems

By NatCat ·
I tried to block users from deleting anythng in the share by choosing security settings, advanced permissions.
I removed the allow permissions from Delete, Delete Files and Folders, Take ownership and change permissions.
Somehow that resulted in users being unable to save to the the folder.
Can anyone tell me why that happened and how to ONLY stop the users from deleting files ?

I can only tell you why it happens.

When you save a file, windows saves it as a temporary file name, then deletes the original file and renames the temporary one to the name you want to save. So if the users does not have rights to delete a file, the user can not save a file.

Give the users the Write Permission.

They have the write permission. In the Non-advanced security permissions only the Modify and Full controlled aren't allowed.
In the advanced option on te delete, delete files and folders, change permissions and take ownership are the only permissions not allowed.

Try restoring the other permissions and leave Deny Permissions to Delete and Delete Subfolders and File.
