Usually only the System Admin can change permissions. Also what OS are you using(eg.NT, Novell, UNIX)??

Security Administration

Hi Wayne,

There are many different ways to go about this. The first thing is to document or "discover" what permissions you have set for the directory or file. You then need to make a business decision on what needs to change if anything. Remember, that security is "determining access". To do this will take a business decision as well. To accomplish this task, the first is a tool in the resource kit, Both for NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, that will enable you to "dump" the permissions for the object. This tool is showacls. The second is a free download from www.somarsoft.com. It's called DumpSec. This tool not only dumps object permissions, it also dumps registry info, share permissions, etc. Check it out.
